Summer Update
It's been about a month since my last post. There has been a lot going on since then. I had been jumping for 5 long run sessions before going to New Iberia, LA for a meet on the 4th of July. After a long day of waiting to jump, I unfortunately rolled my ankle doing my first run through. I even missed a decent surf session on Sunday. We took a week off, since I couldn't walk on it, before actually running on it in 8 days. With a lot of 24 hour rehab I was able to get one 6 step jump session in before leaving for Canada. Driving to Canada, we were pretty unsure of the outcome, but felt strongly about jumping from 8 steps and competing there. We jumped on two occasions while we were there. I actually felt pretty good about it technically and the adrenaline gave me the ability to get on some pretty good size poles. I made 4.45 with the height for 4.75 on some of the better jumps. I had a great time jumping with one of my good friends Jeff Hayhoe. Now that we are back, the focus is on getting the ankle back to normal. It has been just over five weeks and I have now had two running workouts on it without a brace.
Outside of vaulting, the fam and I stayed with the Hayhoe's in King, Ontario, just north of Toronto. They we wonderfully hospitable and great hosts. While we were there, we went to the CN Tower, which is 1815 feet tall with a glass floor to look down. Louis and Chloe rode on their first subway and we had a chance to go to cottage country with the Hayhoe's and did some boating and enjoyed the lake. Louis also had his first jump session in a different country. That part of the country is beautiful, clean and the people we very gracious. On the way home, we stopped by Niagra Falls, which was amazing. All in all we travelled about 2500 miles an drove through 7 states and one new country. It was a great vacation with cooler weather to give us a break from the 100 degree temps here.
August will be pretty busy. Louis is starting school, Chloe is having her first bday and our ninth wedding anniversary is at the end of the month.
I hope everyone is having a great summer and good luck in the offseason.
