Summer is coming to an end

It has been an exciting summer with some great travel and the birth of my baby girl. The latest adventure took us out to Colorado. Jeremy Scott and I made the long trip to see Pat Manson and Mark Pierson. They always put on a top notch meet. Grande won with 5.50m while I put up the big NH. Although the results weren't what I was looking for, I did jump pretty well. I continued to better my technique but blew through some unfamiliar poles.

Now that summer is over, we will start some off season training and some really short run vaults to maintain technique. Of course, I will also be in the woods for the next few months. I'm eager to really focus on my strength and power during this off season. Before you know it, Reno will be here. I will keep you updated on the off season progression.

Summer update

This summer has been very different than usual. PVU traveled to Vaultstock in Jonesboro where we had a lot of fun but didn't leave up the bars we would have liked.

From there, Lon Badeaux and I went to Barbados for a surf trip that didn't disappoint. We had a great time staying with Zed Layson and learning the set up. We both got much better and were on waves bigger than we nomally see. It was a once in a lifetime trip with a good friend. Lon is the head coach at Arkansas State Univ and can be contacted at www.astate.edu.

With little recovery time from that trip, I was on my way to NYC and the Hamptons to meet up with an old friend, Jay Cardiello. He is the personal trainer for 50 cent and a celebrity bootcamp trainer. We did two bootcamps over the weekend. One in Lawrence and the other in the Hamptons. They were both a great sucess. It was a great experience to meet so many great sponsors like MHP, Vita Coco, Blue Star Jets, Cell-nique and Bodybuilding.com. It is definately something I will be doing again in the near future. Jay can be reached at www.cardiellofitness.com or www.myntology.com.

The remainder of the summer will consist of a ton of vault sessions and training. Everyone is working hard to get better. There will be an update with the remaining meets we will attend.

moving into summer

Over the past month, training has gone pretty well. I have been focused on vaulting a lot more. My results from short run are getting higher and hope to transition that into the summer. We will open the summer at Vaultstock on May 31St. Hope to see you there.

Update

After taking a recovery week, I had a really good week of workouts. I was running better and turning out harder workout sessions. This past weekend, I had another good jump day. There was a bit of hesitation from not jumping the prior week, but we recovererd very well and took good technical jumps. We worked on extension on the pole during the connection phase of the jump. Having worked on this from an even shorter run earlier made the transition that much better on our longer run day. All in all we look to put some high jumps together in the near future. Hope outdoor season is going well for everyone and we will see you all soon.

update

The last couple of weeks have gone really well. We have moved through a ton of poles, up to a 15.2 flex from short run. I have been running better than in previous years along with good technique. I'm having a great time with my training partners and having a great set of eyes coaching me. All in all I am having more fun vaulting than I have had in several years. After all, the vault for me has been about the journey. Our next step is to move back to 14 steps next week and continue working on the same principals with more speed.

In other news, Louis (son) took his very first one step vault on his own landing on the front bun. It was a real proud day for us. Last weekend Lon and I took a surf trip to Grand Isle. We did well and the waves turned out pretty nice. By the time we were done we had put in 11 hours of surfing in less than two days.
Hope everyone is ready for outdoor season and I'm sure we will run into you soon.

Update

Training has been going really well since my last post. I have moved back to a 12 step run and continue to keep the technique in tact. We have been working on little things to help create big things. I feel very confident going into the outdoor season.

weekly update

I had a great week of training. Outside of jump days, I've been working really hard to increase my fitness and speed. I had a good vault session from short run early in the week. We continued to work on adjusting to a new short run which went well. I moved through many poles and kept my tecnique together as well. For this early in the year, I feel very confident and we are starting to see results in the height of each jump.

Kellen also had a real good jump session on Saturday. He has started to find some of the missing points of his jump. We have been really working on pressure on the pole and connecting at the top of the vault. We will continue to work on technique while adding some grip.

As we finish up the winter months, everything is looking good for the outdoor season.
